How FoodNutriScan Works

FoodNutriScan turns a photo of your meal into an estimate of its calories and macros. Here is exactly what happens between the photo and your numbers.

  1. 1. Take a photo

Open the scanner and point your camera at your plate, snack or packaged food. You can also upload a photo you already took. Nothing to type, no barcode required.

  2. 2. AI identifies your food

The image is analysed by our AI model, which recognises the foods on the plate and estimates portion size from visual cues such as plate size and depth.

  3. 3. Get nutrition information

You receive an estimate of calories, protein, carbohydrates, fat and fibre for each item detected, along with a total for the whole meal.

  4. 4. Review your results

Estimates are not perfect. You can rename an item, pick a closer match from our food database, adjust the weight, or remove anything you did not eat — totals update as you edit.

  5. 5. Track your food

Save the meal to your history to see your daily totals over time and keep your scanning streak going. Creating an account is free.

How accurate are the estimates?

Results are estimates based on what the photo shows. Hidden ingredients such as cooking oil, sauces or sugar in a sauce cannot be seen, so you may want to adjust items after a scan. FoodNutriScan is a general nutrition tool and is not medical advice.
